Magnetic Scales, Encoder Rings, Readheads & Sensing Assemblies

XAK supports selection and integration of the Inatech product family for linear and rotary position feedback — magnetic scales, encoder rings, readheads and drawing-based sensing components.

Magnetic Position-Encoding Components for Linear and Rotary Motion

The magnetic scale or ring carries the position pattern; the readhead detects the changing magnetic field and provides signals to the customer’s control or measurement electronics.

Supplier-data note: Values on this page come from Inatech product documentation and are provided for initial selection. Final resolution, system accuracy, repeatability and environmental suitability must be confirmed against the exact readhead, electronics, installation and product revision.

Rolled Scale Options and Supplier-Listed Dimensions

Choose the pole pitch together with the readhead and target signal interface. Do not select it as a stand-alone indicator of system resolution.

SeriesPole pitchSupplier-listed common formatSelection note
TR101.0 mmRolled scale; 50 m length formatFor compatible 1 mm pole-pitch readhead designs.
TR121.2 mmRolled scale; 50 m length formatMatch the exact readhead and interpolation electronics.
TR202.0 mmRolled scale; 50 m length formatCommon option for incremental linear measurement layouts.
TR505.0 mmRolled scale; 50 m length formatUse only with a compatible sensor and signal design.

Shared supplier-listed data for the rolled-scale family: magnetization accuracy ±0.03 mm; widths 5, 6, 8, 10 and 20 mm; thicknesses 0.5, 1.0, 1.5 and 2.0 mm; operating temperature −20 to +70°C; storage temperature −40 to +90°C. Magnetization accuracy is not the accuracy of a complete measurement system.

Examples for Compact Linear and Rotary Encoder Designs

The examples below help define an RFQ. Other dimensions and patterns require a drawing-level review with the exact sensing device.

Dual-track absolute ringOD30 × ID11 mmMain pole pitch 1.28 or 1.50 mm; axial 32/31 pole pairs; radial 64/63 pole pairsFor absolute encoder architectures using corresponding iC-Haus devices; confirm exact device matching.

Ring and short-scale examples are not a complete catalog. Supplier material describes greater-than-1 mm mounting-gap capability for certain ring products; the allowable gap must be confirmed for the exact ring, readhead and installation.

The Scale, Readhead, Mechanics and Electronics Form One Measurement System

Inatech readhead documentation describes non-contact measurement, an integrated conversion module and digital output. Environmental robustness still depends on the complete installation.

Signal interface

Incremental readheads provide A/B quadrature signals. Supply voltage, output circuit, cable and controller compatibility must be checked by model.

Mechanical installation

Scale straightness, ring runout, mounting gap, alignment and thermal expansion influence signal quality and repeatability.

Environmental fit

Supplier material describes resistance to dust, vibration and contamination and low sensitivity to dust and ferrous particles. Do not infer an IP rating unless it is stated for the selected model.

Accuracy terminology: ±0.03 mm refers to the supplier-listed magnetization accuracy of the rolled magnetic scale family. It does not specify the accuracy, resolution or repeatability of a finished encoder or length-measurement system.

Where Magnetic Position Feedback Is Useful

Magnetic encoding is attractive where a non-contact scale and readhead can be integrated into the mechanism and where the environment makes an exposed optical scale less convenient.

Linear axes and positioning stages

Rolled or precision short scales for travel feedback, with the machine structure controlling alignment and the selected readhead defining the interface.

Robot joints and rotary mechanisms

Incremental or dual-track rings for compact rotary feedback; ring geometry and bearing/runout conditions must be reviewed together.

AGV and industrial automation

Linear or rotary position feedback where dust, oil mist or routine contamination requires a robust, non-contact measuring concept.

Custom sensing and measurement assemblies

Magnetic carriers, rings, holders and structural mounting details can be reviewed as a drawing-based component package.

Engineering FAQ

Is magnetic scale magnetization accuracy the same as system accuracy?

No. Magnetization accuracy describes the scale pattern. Complete-system accuracy also depends on the readhead, electronics, interpolation, installation, alignment, runout and thermal conditions.

Do the readheads provide absolute position?

The documented readhead output described here is incremental A/B quadrature. Absolute operation requires a suitable absolute scale/ring pattern and compatible encoder electronics; confirm the exact architecture.

Can XAK provide the ring and its mounting structure?

Yes. Magnetic rings or scales can be discussed together with carriers, hubs, brackets and other drawing-based mounting components.

How do I choose between TR10, TR20 and TR50?

Start with the exact readhead or encoder device and its supported pole pitch, then review speed, target output, installation space and mechanical tolerances. Pole pitch alone does not define system resolution.
